Wednesday was a pretty typical day in our house.
It started out with some pretty grumpy babies, who are NOT morning people, and they come by that honestly.
Michael usually gets up and has breakfast with Abbie in the morning, but since he had work at 8am, I made her breakfast and he took her to school, which was rare, but awesome.
Dad and big sister headed off to school, while Jaxon and I got started on our day. This usually consists of a morning tantrum session
Followed by some pouting
Life with a "terrific two" is oh-so-fun :)
Usually, if I put on Diego, he forgets about whatever it was that made life so difficult (not having his Milk in the right cup, or not being able to eat cereal off the floor...you know...the usual.) and get's back to normal. This leaves me with a few minutes to get in my quiet time...without which it would be physically impossible to get through the day.
The day takes a turn for the better :)
After our little morning routine, we decided to get dressed and try out the new Natural grocery store here in town.
Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
I'm not sure it's normal how excited I was about this!
We recently got some blood work back on Michael, and found out that he has an acute arthritis (gout) that SEVERELY limits the foods that he can eat. Remember when he hurt his ankle playing soccer back in January? Well apparently the injury brought this on, in addition to his dad having it (it's hereditary) and mainly due to his poor diet filled with too much protein/processed sugars and not enough (ehem...not ANY) vegetables.
No more steak and beer for this guy :(
To tell you the truth I am very thankful for this! I am thankful that his wake up call was something that can be managed through diet and medication, and not a heart attack or triple bypass! If you know me I am a health food fanatic, and fully believe in (most things) organic and fresh, so this is right up my alley. Not that we eat perfectly all the time...(I am a sucker for sweets and pizza hut (: ) I am trying to incorporate lots of his favorite things (chorizo, pizza, etc) by using vegan versions, since these are things that are high in uric acid. And I am praying for an open mind for him to try these new things that his body needs! :)
Wow...got a little off topic there.
Anyhow, Jax and I went to the new grocery store, and loved every second of it. After that, we went to Albertsons to pick up a few sale items, then on to the main event of the day...STORY TIME!
Oh how we love story time! It is so ridiculously cute to see him singing and dancing to the instructions of the songs, and interacting with little ones his age!
We usually stop for a mid-morning muffin date at the bakery downtown before story time, but since we got so carried away with the Natural Grocer's situation, we didn't make it in time. So instead, we decided on lunch there.
Mmm...harvest muffins!
Can I tell you that this was only HALF of the worlds largest chicken salad sandwich?! It was a beast. And the other half is still sitting in my fridge. Annnd I think I will go take care of it after this post.
Little buddy was so worn out from our busy morning, he passed out in the car before we got home, which is very unusual for my wild man.
With the boy asleep, comes mommy chore time, which yesterday meant mounds and mounds of laundry. Lovely.
Yikes! Can I tell you this wasn't even all of it? I haven't been sticking to my "1 load a day" rule...or even 1 load every 3 days for that matter.
Luckily I remembered to throw dinner in the crockpot..which I almost forgot due to the excessive amounts of laundry looming over my head.
Pork loin, roasted potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. and whole wheat flax seed banana bread with unrefined sugar. Yum.
After lots of chores...Big sis was home and the boy was up, which means feeding time. And trust me, you don't want to find out what happens if you're not prepared with food at snack time. Won't be pretty.
Luckily I was prepared.
After snack, Abbie got to doing her chores...
(With a broken thumb even...impressive)
Dinner was ready...
And it was well received.
After dinner, we met our friends Erin and Shayne, and headed to the city-wide prayer at one of our local churches. What a powerful 2 hours, it was! Such an amazing thing for so many people to come together for one common purpose, lifting our world, nation, state, and city up in prayer.
Unfortunately I didn't think to take pictures, but rest assured, it was great!
It was pretty late by the time we got home, but we got to sleep in the next morning (due to a 9am Dr. appt.) so we let the kids play and unwind a little bit.
Then came story/prayer/bed time
Obviously they were both super mellow and ready for rest. Right.
After the munchkins were asleep in bed, it was Mom/Dad time together...
Don't let this lively picture fool you, it wasn't 10 minutes before I was passed out on the couch while the Mav's were playing on the TV. What? It was a long day!
So there ya go...a small glimpse into our day to day. I am really looking forward to someday printing this out for our children to see and remember what life was like during their childhood ... AND see it from a parent's perspective.
xoxo
